The Soultrain.

Jurgen and Linda came up with this idea of which I'm a big fan: The Soultrain! A mobile disco playing soul tunes. They bought all the equipment and last Saturday was the first test drive in De Gouvernestraat. I was in charge of the photos (I was using Jurgen's camera, SO JEALOUS!) and witnessed plenty of dancing and fun. 

We made the Soultrain's carriages shake!

Lijnbar.

As part of the ZigZag City events, the Lijnbar was set up in the Lijnbaan of Rotterdam's shopping centre. The people behind BAR, Maatschappij Voor Volksgeluk, were in charge. Las Friday we enjoyed this concert by Port of Call (new discovery for me!) and Dutch poetry followed (which we did not bother to try and understand as normal spoken Dutch is already quite a handful for me). 

 

Kate Moss was looking from a distance, feeling jealous.

The city is beating.

As part of the Zig Zag City event, you can go up to the 18th floor of the Shell building at the Hoofplein. For free! The views are amazing. Seeing Rotterdam from above makes me like it even more.

Utrecht Manifest No. 4

Together with Toon Koehorst I've been working on the website for the 4th edition of the Utrecht Manifest. The opening was on the 1st of May, it was nice to have a real intake of all the participants after copy and pasting their names for the site.

Utrecht Manifest is a bi-annual cultural event in Utrecht. The biennial for social design was created with the aim to bring the design process and user closer together. Art director Jurgen Bey laid the groundwork for a new vision: living, working, learning and leisure as an organic whole: 'A Working Landscape'.


Could this be a development model for our inner cities?
What solutions can provide social design in social issues such as: food production, social cohesion, exchange of knowledge and the relationship between home and work?


Rotsoord, production landscape for centuries and it is listed as a building site, is the test site of 'A Workin Landscape'. In four main programs UM No. 4 tries to find new connections and new inroads through research in the area and collaboration with local initiatives. Workspace Rotsoord is a base and exhibition space of the four main curators and their team of designers.

These women set up a stall at the building where I work.

Very small toilet. That's a normal sized lightbulb, so you get an idea of the scale.
