Ollieboll season.

It's ollieboll season again! I can't believe another year has gone by, it seems like it was summer a few days ago!

Here we have a photo of Hector, a new comer in Rotterdam, trying an ollieboll for the first time in his life. He liked it, of course.

York crew visiting Rotterdam.

A few of Phil's friends from York came over for a few days to check his new home. We shared lots of nice moments, with home made English breakfast, oven trays emitting incredible sounds, good music and dramatic skies.

Phil and Cow.

Sarah amazed by the oven tray sounds.

Everyone was impressed.

Breakfast time!

English breakfast good for the soul.

Eating the local food at Waarung Mini.

A performance of the israeli electro-acoustic musical project ‘hatzatz’, this was the 9th edition of Crimmp.
Crimmp is a series of performances organized by Noud Heerkens curator of OCW Stage for Small Scale Events. It's in Osseweistraat. He has an amazing collection of 16mm films formerly owned by the Goethe Instituut with footage from the Third Reich edited in the 80's.

In the nineties, the rotterdam goethe-institute moved to the westersingel. _in the basement of the building at the ’s-gravendijkwal some hundred solid black boxes were left behind: the face of germany stored on miles of 16 mm film. _it was mere coincidence, that the archive ended up in the hands of the ex-operator, filmmaker, curator and producer noud heerkens. __for crimmp_09 he selected three short films. _the audience decides which one will be projected

Living Things by Jessica Seamans

I got my delivery in the post the other day of the illustrated booklet from the series Living Things by Jessica Seamans. Published by Little Otsu. This number is specialized in Cryptids, Folkloric Beasts and Mythological Animals. Stunning, dark, intricate, nightmarishly beautiful.

Everything goes my way.

Everythiing goes my way. That's what I'm hoping for for a future project that I've been working on. Let's all cross our fingers and sway our heads to this song for me today, please.

There's not much that can go wrong in a videoclip filmed outside, with a bright red lipped girl, a beige trench coat, ferns and a load of bambis.

Posts are a bit scarce this week, but on their way.

Pot luck dinner at Ori's.

Ori hosted a cozy night at hers on Sunday and everybody contributed. I like this potluck dinner concept.

I like the contrast of expressions between Fotini and Panos in this photo.

Dutch Design Week 2012.

This year the graphic design of Dutch Design Week was a bit intrusive, I found. Here we have a photo of Kiki and Joost. Kiki can't be recognized and Joost's face is partially covered. I wonder how Kiki feels.

The architects of this building must be thrilled about Media Markt's discrete signs on the façade.

Alex Motta getting his prize for nanotechnologies. Congratulations!

No parking?

Billboards are THE thing lately.

Kirstie van Noort and Rogier Arents - Color Collision.
Copied from the exhibition caption, "Materials re affected by circumstances. The pigment in red cabbage is subject to a striking change in color when the PH value in the environment changes. When applied to ceramics this results in crockery in unprecedented colors. The intriguing moment of color collision is catered in film and photography.

Shylight by Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta.
"Shylight is a light hidden in a cocoon. It is based on the natural process by which flowers attact and repel pollen-gathering bees. It falls out of its cocoon, opens its petals and floats down to show all its splendor. At the slightest danger it flips shut and retreats into his shell."

Click below to see it in movement. It was one of my favorite pieces.

I'm always amazed at how much space is available for young designers in The Netherlands.
