Gerrit Rietveld Academy grad show.

On Saturday we got together with the Russian crew to visit the Gerrit Rietveld Academy grad show in Amsterdam. Again, I made the mistake of not taking note of the designers and artists behind the projects. But I will try and find out who they are.

Fun at the park!

Beautiful building designed by Rietveld himself.

Timur in red light with glasses on.

Growing plant pots! (One fo my favourite projects).

I like this shelving system.

Installation by Anna Navndrup. Photo by Phil. A more realistic photo below.

Timur fights his way out. It looked specially funny if you imagined it without the strings. So I made this video:

Designers posing for the calendar.

Nice textures for screen print.

Very subtle erotic illustrations. Another one of my favourites.

Masha explains good parenting while Timurs have fun on the swings.

Phil likes the swing.

Once we were out of the show, everything looked like art.

Timur was exhausted.

Dog taking a nap. Or squinting. Or giving me a hate-look.

Stedelijk Museum.

One of the few public fountains I've encountered in The Netherlands.

Caca. Kakashka.

Look-alike.

On the way back to Rotterdam.

Opening at the Piet Zwart Institute.

It's graduation season! So it was a weekend full of final projects. On Friday we visited the Piet Zwart Institute graduation show at TENT where Amy was showing her Mood Radar. It's on until the 15th of July, so you still have some time to go and have your mood read to predict the weather!

Phil and me amongst the Mood Radar interface.

Jan de Bruin enjoying the rain.

Amy Wu is a graphic designer as well as an artist.

Escalivada.

I didn't use this recipe, below, from http://www.spain-recipes.com/, because I was cooking for 2. I left the tomatoes out and served it with anchovies.

Ingredients

Preparation

Prepare a hot fire in a charcoal grill, or preheat the oven to 500ºF.
Brush the eggplants, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes with olive oil. If using a grill, place the vegetables directly over the fire and grill, turning frequently, for 15 to 30 minutes, or until the skins blacken and the vegetables are tender. The variation in timing depends on the heat of the fire, and some vegetables, such as the tomatoes, may be ready before the others. If using an oven, arrange the vegetables on a rimmed baking sheet or in a roasting pan and roast, turning every 10 minutes, for 30 minutes, or until the skins blacken and the vegetables are tender. Remove the vegetables from the grill or oven, wrap in newspapers, slip into one or more plastic bags, and let cool for about 1 hour.
Unwrap the vegetables. Peel the eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes, and peel away the outer layer of the onions. Split the bell peppers in half, discard the seeds and stems, and cut lengthwise into strips about 1 1/2 inches wide. Transfer to a bowl. Trim the stems from the eggplants and core the tomatoes, and then cut them into strips of the same size as the pepper strips and add to the bowl. Trim the onions, cut into rings, and add to the bowl along with the garlic.
Add the 1/3 cup olive oil, season with salt, and toss to mix well. Serve at room temperature.
